You know one day I might not private things, to be fair this time I was looking for work last year and didn't want an employer to google me. Anyway, I wanna talking about writing and plotting.
When I first started writing I had no idea what a plot was, I just pantsed it and well, that story still isn't finished. Slowly I found out about plotting and servilly disliked it, just doing it was hard and I was not a fun. But I learnt how to plot, why it's useful and now, I'm somewhere between at times.
I enjoy finding a story in the wild, I watch it, study it for awhile, see why it might be. Normally that's me expanding and day dreaming in my head before finally writing something down. It might be the first scene that came to me, a random conversation or even just working out names. Normally I end up writing a few hundred words, daydreaming some more and just living as one with the story always swimming around. I use to just keep writing from there, and re-writing, But now I force myself to get some sort of outline down. By this point it's in my head, even if one is just 'no idea they play around' I know the start and the end. It keeps me on track as well, also helps with being impatient and always wanting to know everything.
Don't get me wrong, it's never set in stone, Apart for the final battle or darkest moment, that's normally the first or third thing that comes to me. The 3 act, 9 block, 27 chapter structure is also the one that makes the most sense to me. The other night I did a quick bullet point plot'ish thing in Scrivener, today I went and looked at the time I tried to plot the name story, they were the same thing, the same points, even though I thought in my head when writing they were different. (Also I don't treat the chapters and chapters, more of an this is what needs to happen to get to the next plot point).
I still see myself as a pantser or gardener, because everything starts the same and once it's under way I just plot to keep myself on track, otherwise there are a lot of scenes that would be better titled as fanfiction. I still write my fanfiction scenes sometimes, just as a what if. It's fun, i suggest if you get stuck just write fanfiction about your story, sometimes it leads me to the thing I was trying to work out while the character is word vomiting.
Anyway, I'm not sure when I will start but soon I'm going to act as if I'm pregnant with a story and start a first draft that get's delivered in 9 months. Then we start editing it, teaching it what it has to know, like talking, walking and pooing, then more on to the pretty stuff.
